The Role

Richmond upon Thames operates a high performing public library service which is well regarded within the community.

Our Library Assistants play a vital role in promoting reading, supporting learning and encouraging our visitors to participate in the rich cultural and community life of Richmond upon Thames.

Library staff pride themselves on the high quality and welcoming service they are able to offer local people. 

As a Library Assistant, you will:

  • Multi task in a busy environment
  • Work on a customer service desk carrying out a range of duties including Answering enquires and dealing with the issue and return of resources
  • Help library users to access a range of IT resources
  • Help with the promotion of library stock
  • To deliver children’s activities including Tiny Teddies, story time and class visits
  • To assist team members with a variety of library promotional activities for adults and children such as author talks
  • Helping visitors to access the full range of services provided by the boroughs libraries

You may be required to work in any of our 12 libraries across the borough, so you will need to be flexible in your attitude to work.

We have Full Time and Part Time posts

Full Time 36 hour posts working 4 days every week and every other Saturday

Weekdays from 9.15 – 6.15/7.15

Saturdays from 9.15 – 4.15

A generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays pro rata.

Interview Date: Week of the 11 October
