About Us:

Embedding health and safety in construction from the very start

Following the Grenfell inquiry, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea understands the opportunity, as well as the necessity, for positive innovation and change.

We have brought our social housing stock back under local authority control and are reviewing the management of our portfolio to prepare for major new legislation and to ensure rigorous compliance with building regulations.

The Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations will be a key focus as we carry out Capital and M&E works worth over £300million over the next five years.

The Role:

In this brand new role, you will develop robust processes and systems for ensuring our Housing Management team complies with the CDM regulations.

You will also act as our appointed Principal Designer. This means controlling the pre-construction phase of projects and having a positive influence on health and safety.

As a key player within the Capital Delivery team, you’ll work alongside various departments, embedding standards and assuring the work of contractors, as well as external consultants working as Principal Designers.

You will provide subject matter expertise and regulatory advice to our front-line project managers and procurement specialists.

We’ll also look to you to coordinate the delivery of CDM training and awareness sessions.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

We’re seeking a self-starter who has the tenacity and organisational skills to establish CDM as an integral part of our in-house working practices.

It‘s a role that you can make your own.

You’ll be an exceptional communicator with the ability to negotiate and have strong problem-solving skills.

Experience in a CDM/Principal Designer role is essential, as is a thorough knowledge of the relevant regulations.

You’ll have good knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety, a NEBOSH certificate in Construction Health and Safety and membership of IOSH.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
