Job Details

In Camden we are committed to working together to make our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Partnership with our communities is central to the way we work, so that everyone can access opportunities, and nobody gets left behind. The Construction Management (CMP) Site Inspector will have a key understanding of the role of local government in supporting residents through high quality services.

Construction related impacts from sites across the borough and the impact on local residents and businesses has become an increasing problem in Camden over the past few years. The Council’s adoption of a Construction Management Plan (CMP) pro-forma and implementation fee sought to ensure that developers and their contractors adhere to high standards to limit the disturbance to neighbouring residents. CMPs are primarily technical documents that cover a range of different disciplines including transport, public liaison and air quality. They are linked to specific planning permissions and secured via S106 Legal Agreement.

The role

We are looking for someone to join the enforcement team as a CMP Planning Site Inspector to focus on monitoring compliance with Construction Management Plans working within the Planning Enforcement Team and alongside other departments to proactively address problem construction sites

The role involves:

  • Working closely with officers from planning obligations, environmental health, highways, transport and legal to respond to complaints.
  • Undertake compliance checks on construction sites across the borough
  • Working alongside CMP enforcement officer when breaches are witnessed.
  • Working out of the office visiting construction sites to gathering evidence/check compliance
  • Dealing with site managers/developers/property owners.
  • Attending the internal construction working group meetings with colleagues from across the council
  • You will work with the CMP enforcement officer and closely with officers from planning obligations, environmental health, highways, transport and legal.
  • This role includes site visits, out of hours and weekend work (call out).
  • You will have demonstrable experience of working in a Local Authority Background, ideally working in a similar site-based compliance role and understanding of Construction Management.
  • You will need to be able to demonstrate you can work well independently and in a team, can deal with a number of competing and challenging issues, and are up for a challenge.
  • You will be adaptable and possess a flexible approach to your work and the service’s needs - taking responsibility for a defined service area or outcome and delivering it in a high quality effective manner.
