Job Details

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the restructured AST service for a Gangs and Violence Reduction Worker

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

The AST is a multi-disciplinary team embedded in the Early Help Service that includes workers from a range of areas. The team will work with young people on the edge of care, at risk of poor outcomes and/or at risk of serious harm, enabling them to fulfil their potential and achieve positive outcomes. The service aims to maintain young people within their family network, preventing escalation of their cases to higher-level statutory services and/or preventing their entry to care, by providing intensive, evidence-based interventions, delivered at the point of crisis and beyond.

The team operates from 9.00am to 8.00pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays, running on a rota basis.

Practice in the AST is grounded in the principles and values of the Brent Practice Framework, and the work feeds into Brent CYP’s contextual safeguarding approach. Whole family working, Signs of Safety, Trauma Informed Approaches and Restorative practices are key approaches in the AST’s operation, and work is delivered within the Early Intervention Framework.

The Person

We are looking for a dynamic person, with extensive knowledge of working with young people involved with or at risk of becoming involved in gang related activities.

The successful post holder will be responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of a high-quality Gangs focused provision, to young people and their families. They will have a small case load, devising and coordinating appropriate packages of support which meet the needs of vulnerable young people, in order to reduce their involvement in gang activities and ultimately prevent young people becoming looked after.

You will work in partnership with colleagues in the Children and Young people department, wider council, schools, police, aligned and commissioned services as well as voluntary agencies, to ensure that the LA’s statutory duties are carried out and delivered effectively.

Anyone interested in applying for this opportunity should read the attached job description and person specification. If you meet these requirements and are interested in this role, please provide a brief expression of interest featuring what experience and skills you can bring to this role (maximum 1 side of A4).

Please attach your expression of interest/supporting information as a word document to your application.

If you have any questions, please contact Rashma Toora-Sippel on Rashma.TooraSippel@brent.gov.uk or 07833289512

Closing Date: 20 October 2021 (23:00)
