About us

We at Dorset Council have celebrated our second birthday this year and have demonstrated our flexibility and ability to achieve great things even in times of enormous challenge. Now you have a chance to join us in this essential role at an exciting time of change as we continue to drive the transformation of our Assets and Property service

Dorset Council is on a journey to transform. The new unitary authority has given us the opportunity to bring together the skills and expertise from the predecessor councils and to build these into a single integrated Assets and Property team. We have embarked on the challenge of reviewing the large land and property estate, ensuring our assets and property portfolio is used to best effect to serve the people of Dorset.

What you will be doing

This is a fixed term post reporting directly into the Executive Director of Place, shaping key decisions and actions and progressing at pace.  You will be driving forward our Asset Management Plan shaping the council’s assets portfolio to meet the needs of a modern and forward-thinking council.  As part of our committed Corporate Leadership team you will play a pivotal role in continuing to transform the Property and Assets service, leading our recently restructured team and engaging with key stakeholders including our elected members and communities. This role is responsible for driving growth, continuous service improvement, innovation and good practice across the function’s allocated services.

About you

You will be a skilled ambassador for the council, a strong and visible leader who can collaborate effectively across key stakeholders to develop, shape and embed the Council’s strategic vision into transformational delivery. With a professional qualification, you will be financially astute and adept at leading large-scale transformation programmes and embedding new and alternative delivery models for council led services.

You will have the credibility, political awareness and communication skills to develop effective working relationships, building trust and influencing partnerships to deliver services. Collaborative, innovative and flexible, you will be able to continue to lead and develop the positive organisational culture to support the achievement of organisational goals in a challenging environment. You will be passionate about making Dorset a place where people want to live, work and visit.

Why you should join us

Dorset really is a great place to live work and visit. With 95 miles of coastline stretching through Dorset and East Devon the Jurassic Coast is England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are a young, ambitious council, embracing innovation and serving communities of over 375,000 residents, providing over 450 services. We offer a fantastic range of employee benefits, with your wellbeing at the heart of our workplace culture which is friendly, collaborative and creative, with strong support for continual learning and development.

We are excited and confident for the future of our county – join us!

For an informal discussion about the role please contact John Sellgren on 01305 225274 after Monday 18th October.
