About us

Camden is building somewhere everyone can thrive, by making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Because, we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. We are seeking a Principal Committee Officer to oversee, co-ordinate and monitor the work of formal bodies of the Council.

The role

We’re seeking a knowledgeable Principal Committee Officer to oversee, co-ordinate and monitor the work of formal bodies of the Council, ensuring compliance with legislation, Government and Council policy. You will be responsible for providing efficient and effective servicing and support for Members, Chief and Senior Officers, as well as school admissions and other appeals panels.

You’ll be working in a fast paced environment, advising staff on constitutional practices and guidelines, regularly preparing reports, agendas and minutes. Alongside this, you will keep abreast of changes in legislation, ensuring that all relevant information is placed before the appropriate bodies without delay, and keep up to date with the changing ways that democratic engagement is taking place in the modern world.

This role will enable you to further enhance your knowledge of council procedure and law as you’ll take the lead in contributing to the overall and continuing development of constitutional practices and guidelines.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate your knowledge of committee administration, council procedures and law, as well as the technology that supports the delivery of local democratic functions. The ability to carry out extensive research and analysis, whilst effectively presenting complex information to a range of audiences is key to the role.

You will have excellent oral and written communication skills as you’ll be regularly preparing reports and correspondence, alongside the ability to understand complex issues/problems and present solutions.

You’ll have wide experience of servicing meetings that fall within the remit of the constitution and be able to manage and prioritise conflicting business needs as part of a busy team.

Working for Camden

We’re ready to welcome your ideas, your views, and your rebellious spirit. Help us redefine how corporate services, and we’ll redefine what a career can be. If that sounds good to you, we’d love to talk.
