Job Description

Our policy team has been at the forefront of our response to the pandemic. We’ve learnt a lot and hope that you have too and are keen to apply that learning in taking up a new role.

Now is your opportunity to join a team that links with colleagues from Adult Social Care, Public Health and the NHS to determine the future of health and care services in Devon.

You will help support our Director and Lead Member and their leadership team in informing and communicating their decisions to staff, service users and carers, partners and providers.

Your research and thinking will inform our vision and strategy, respond to government consultation and legislation, and develop and implement the commissioning and operational policy frameworks that support it.

You will help prepare us for challenges to come, including planning our response to future emergencies. And you will have a role in readying us for changes in regulation.

You will take on responsibilities from across the team’s wide-ranging portfolio and participate in multi-functional teams to deliver change.

We are looking for a senior officer who enjoys applying evidence, research and best practice in working with others to find solutions to a range of challenges and is stimulated by no working day ever being the same.

County Hall in Exeter will be the official work base but there Is likely to be significant opportunity to work from home and/or from other workplaces around Devon. Out of county travel may be required on occasions.

Those successfully shortlisted will take part in a time limited exercise prior to the interview, give a presentation during the interview and may be asked to take part in a short exercise providing executive support to our senior leaders.

Working for Devon County Council has all the benefits that you can expect from a large employer. In return for the vital contribution that you make, we offer:

  • 24.5 days annual leave per year (rising with length of service) plus Bank Holidays
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – more information can be found on the Peninsula Pensions website
  • Access to our confidential Employee Assistance Programme – available 24/7 to support you with personal and work life
  • Flexible working opportunities, including home-working (subject to the needs of the role)
  • Discounts from local and high street retailers through the Devon Discounts scheme
