The role

Paving the way to Independence!

Camden LAC and Care Leavers service (LACCL) is passionate about supporting Care Leavers to develop skills that will enable them to live in the community independently. The team work closely with professionals from a range of agencies including education, apprenticeships scheme, colleges, Police, Youth Offending Services and key workers in semi-independent accommodations in order to promote and meet each young person’s needs. We are determined to drive and improve outcomes for Looked After Children and Care Leavers and to enable them to move on to independence in a way that enhances their life chances.

As a Personal Advisor you will work alongside social workers in a busy 0-25 LAC and Care Leavers service, supporting care leavers aged 18-25 in reaching independence. Through the creation of trusted relationships, you will promote the development of practical skills such as budgeting, maintaining accommodation and engagement with education and training. You will also promote the social and emotional wellbeing of young adults, through relational practice.

This is an exciting an evolving area of practice and an opportunity to play a key role in the development of young people progressing through the care system to independence.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate good working knowledge of the legislative framework relating to children, particularly the Children Act 1989 and all legislation related to looked after children and Children in Need.

Good working knowledge of the legislative framework of social service department is required.

Experience of working with young people aged 18-25 years old supporting them with their accommodation and developing a wide range of independent living skills.

You will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the legislative framework relating to children and young people, particularly the Children Act 1989 and The Leaving Care Act 2000.

You will have knowledge and understanding of the pressures faced by families and young people living in socially deprived neighbourhoods.  The issues faced by young people leaving care and how best to prevent homelessness as an adult leaving care.

You will need to have a commitment to work as part of the team developing the drop in centre which has regular events, such as money matters sessions, sexual health clinics and sessions on housing, benefits and employment etc.
