About the role

Are you someone with a passion for ensuring children and young people with special educational needs and disability achieve their potential and aspirations into adulthood?

We are looking for a dynamic Head of SEND who can continue to drive forward our plans for SEND across North Yorkshire, working collaboratively with partners across health, care, the voluntary sector and parents/carers and children and young people. Our vision is to ensure children and young people aged 0-25 years are identified at the earliest stage and receive the right support to maximise their potential and achievements. You will ensure the local area is aspirational for children and young people with SEND and that lived experiences inform service development on an ongoing basis.

You will lead and manage the 4 SEND Hubs located across the county, made up of multi-disciplinary teams of professionals including SEN Caseworkers, specialist teachers and practitioners, Educational Psychologists and therapists. The teams provide direct support for children and young people with SEND as well as supporting settings to build capacity through high quality professional development.

This position offers a unique leadership role that will allow you to continue to develop and transform services based on feedback from all partners ensuring North Yorkshire is a highly acclaimed local authority, both regionally and nationally, for the work we do.

About you

We are looking for a candidate with a comprehensive knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and a commitment to providing the best quality services for families and children. Senior leadership or managerial experience within a Children’s environment is essential. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who will be transformational to ensure that our SEND Services are robust for the future and meet the needs of children and young people.

In return for your hard work and dedication to our service, we can offer you the chance to be part of a strong and supportive team. You will also benefit from a variety of competitive employee rewards such as local government pension scheme, retail discounts and access to green car scheme which is just one of a range of salary sacrifice schemes available

The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.

Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The County Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.
