The 8 District, Borough & County Council’s in North Yorkshire are coming together in April 2023 to form a new organisation, one unified council. The single council will provide the resilience, scale and financial sustainability to deliver outstanding services, tackle the challenges facing the whole county after the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic, take advantage of future opportunities and provide secure, varied and interesting career prospects for our staff.
One unified organisation gives us the opportunity to further focus on the way we work, and to work in a more agile and flexible way, centred around our customers. Through local delivery hubs situated across the county we can offer staff increased flexibility as to how and where they work, for some roles the freedom to work anywhere across the county.
A single council will further develop nationally acclaimed essential services. By uniting we will take the best of all council services and have the scale to improve things for everyone living and working here.

April 2023 may seem a long way away, but our HR work starts now to unite, unify and transform our councils, ensure we deliver a smooth transition to our new way of working which will benefit us and our residents in North Yorkshire. We have lots of do, such as HR Project work, TUPE, Restructures, Policies and workforce transformation leading up to and well beyond April 2023 in addition to our daily operational HR case work, this fantastic opportunity allows you to showcase and develop your skills and be part of developing our new culture.
We are looking for HR professionals at all levels to join us across the county, you do not require experience of working in Local Government we welcome applications from other sectors, with experience of working with large and complex organisations an advantage.

As you can see we have a strong pipeline of exciting and interesting work ahead of us and collectively we deliver HR services to over 20,000 staff directly and indirectly. Therefore we are equally interested in receiving applications from HR professionals who prefer to work on a permanent or temporary basis, full-time or part-time basis.
Depending on your expertise and your preference you might work for any one of the 8 councils either directly or indirectly, and however you join us from April 2023 you will transfer to the new council. Exciting times!
Because we have multiple opportunities in our HR services across 8 councils we have not published all of our job descriptions, in summary we are looking for experienced HR professionals who can offer some or all of the following;
- Practical application of employment law, HR policy and procedure
- Provide HR advice and guidance both generalist and across the HR specialisms
- Support managers with workforce issues such as restructures, disciplinary, attendance and develop performance
- Working in a pressurised environment with competing and conflicting priorities
- Develop and deliver HR & OD programmes and transformation
- Ability to work with agility, ambiguity with a positive and collaborative approach
- Be a trusted adviser and partner
