This post is fixed term until 31st July 2023.

The Area Mentoring Officer is responsible for supporting Sandwell people accessing the Black Country Impact programme.

The Black Country Impact programme is funded by the European Social Fund and the Youth Employment Initiative and is aimed at young people aged 16-29 who are Not in Employment Education or Training (NEET).

The Area Mentoring Officer will be responsible for engaging with Sandwell residents who need help to find a job, support to find a college course or further education, or advice on how to get on a training course or learn new skills.

The role involves working with young people from a wide range of backgrounds including young people with disabilities and mental health conditions and young people leaving care. 

You will be mentoring and supporting young people during their development activities and ensuring they are committed to their career pathway.  You will be required to monitor and report on the progress of the young people you are supporting and identify progression routes into employment.

Applicants should:

  • Be educated to Level 3 Information Advice & Guidance (IAG) or equivalent.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years-experience working within the Post-16 Education and Learning and/or Employment and Skills area.
  • Experience of assessing people’s needs, setting goals and devising action plans.

You will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

37 hours per week
