The role

We currently have two roles, one as Building Surveyor and one as Building Maintenance Surveyor (Mechanical).

In both roles, you will lead in the process of receiving details of repairs required and assess the necessary actions you will need to take.

You will work as a team, ensuring that all works are ordered in accordance with the Council’s Contract Standing Orders and Financial Regulations and internal procedures. You will also prepare reports as required in respect of technical issues and recommend and deliver agreed solutions on time.

There is an expectation that you will embrace the ethos of a self-managed team. The self-managed team is expected to define priorities, set objectives, allocate work strands and manage the workload. The self-managed team will contribute towards sharing and developing knowledge within the team.

About you

As a Building Maintenance Surveyor: you will be a qualified Building Surveyor building services engineering (Mechanical) and educated to degree level (recent graduates welcome) or equivalent in building surveying and/or mechanical engineering and have previous experience of working across multi-disciplinary services, within 180  operational and administrative commercial buildings/schools, e.g. large and small scale offices; depots; community center’s; libraries; schools; sport centres; cemeteries; parks and open spaces; etc.

As a Building Surveyor: you will be a qualified Building Surveying, educated to degree level or equivalent (recent graduates welcome) and have previous experience of working within a variety of operational and administrative commercial buildings, e.g. large and small scale offices; depots; community centres; libraries; schools; sport centres; cemeteries; parks and open spaces; listed buildings; etc.

For both roles - you will need to have knowledge and experience of implementing the requirements of Health & Safety and associated legislation, in particular the Health and Safety at Work Act (H&SAWA), EEC directives and CDM regulations. Knowledge of building services would be an advantage.

It is key that you have excellent and effective communication skills as you will be required to liaise with people from all levels, including senior managers and officers across directorates, members of the public, contractors, consultants and business tenants. You will be committed to delivery of exceptional customer care to building occupiers and will assist in maintaining close liaisons with building occupiers and commercial tenants, and will continuously seek to improve the quality of services provided.
