As the lead for our Looked After Children Service, this role presents an exciting opportunity to own and shape how we support children and young people in our care, with an emphasis on consistency of experience for all. You will lead a large team of c70 professionals across a broad range of teams, including Looked After Children, the Leaving Care Service; Placement Services; Fostering Services; Family Solutions, and more.

You will be responsible for driving and coordinating the delivery of high standards in social work practice and will be instrumental in sustaining a good working relationship with the Regional Adoption Agency, maintaining the highest standards possible.

This is a service area that attracts considerable attention and scrutiny, but there is also a highly developed understanding of the complexity and importance of our work. You can rely on wholehearted political and organisational support to deliver the best outcomes for children and young people.

Expectations are high, and we do not want these services to stand still; this is a chance to build on what we already do well, whilst seeking out further improvement and innovation. You will be a champion for our Signs of Safety practice model and have a strong work ethic and commitment to high standards of professional evidence based practice. You will bring an emphasis on effective performance management and the ambition and resilience to take our service to the next level. You will have a collaborative way of working, deputising for your colleagues and stepping in where necessary, and be a role model for staff across Children’s Services in Bexley.
