Exeter is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and at the beginning of a journey in delivering a new transformational Garden Community housing programme of 12,000 homes on 9 strategic sites focused on the city centre and River Exe. Exeter has declared a climate emergency and published a Net Zero 2030 plan with ambitious plans for supporting active travel and active lifestyles. As a Sport England Local Delivery Pilot Exeter has invested heavily in wellbeing and asset based community development. The Planning and development functions sit at the heart of the city’s place shaping agenda and the new director will have a pivotal role in bringing to fruition the Exeter 2040 vision.
As Director of Planning & Development you will need to lead the regeneration programme, build constructive relationships with strategic partners across the sub-region as well as support the Liveable Exeter Place Board in pursuing Exeter’s vision to make the city a healthy, inclusive and sustainable city, a globally leading city in responding to the challenges of climate change.
In the short term your role will be to use your planning and delivery skills to embed the transformational housing programme into the new local plan, and build a delivery programme and team to support investment and delivery at pace.
The role will give the right leader the opportunity to support the Council as the chief planning advisor and to work on a range of strategic projects with the city’s anchor institutions as we embark on the next phase of our journey to reshape the city centre, support innovation and the transition to net zero.
The role will deliver challenge and reward in equal measure. If you’d like a seat on the strategic management board and want to work with one of the most forward thinking and agile local authorities in the country, we would love to hear from you.
