The support you need to make good decisions, for those who may be in crisis.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we look after a diverse population, which includes people living in some of the nation’s most deprived wards. Our challenges have become particularly acute during the pandemic but, by sharing facilities and expertise in a bi-borough agreement with Westminster City Council, we have sustained joined-up health and social care services that put residents at their heart. We support people’s independence and wellbeing and work hard to enable them to live in the community with dignity, choice, and control. However, when mental health crises occur, our Duty Team of AMHPs are ready to act.

The Role:

You’ll provide both assessment and support for people referred with urgent mental health issues likely to require statutory intervention. Signposting and supporting colleagues to consider least restrictive practices. Promote the independence and rights of vulnerable individuals, addressing safeguarding issues, advocating and empowering people to make choices where they can. No two days are the same in our diverse and densely populated borough, you’ll need to be ready for a range of both challenging & rewarding situations. Working to keep service users and those around them safe means looking at the bigger picture, whilst considering several courses of actions available, escalating where necessary to optimise the best outcomes. This is a non-case holding role, you will work within a dedicated team, have the autonomy to make decisions on cases as an experienced AMHP with a sound knowledge of the law, whilst working closely with other partner agencies in a collaborative approach, to reach the desired outcome for that individual and their immediate needs. The team promotes a flexible and collective responsibility to prioritising workload according to risk, urgency and complexity. With the full support and access to management.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

Problem solving and calm under pressure, you’ll have the ability to maintain professionalism whilst in situations of conflict and stress, often dealing with competing demands. You’ll be a qualified and registered social worker, with sound experience of practising as an AMHP in many different settings especially duty work. Proactive and focused on finding both practicable and realistic solutions, you’ll bring a wide range of skills and strategies to every situation and be able to apply them flexibly and creatively. Clear communication and effective negotiating skills are key, and you’ll also be adept at coaching and mentoring others to help develop a strong and expert team. You will have sound record keeping and clear decision-making skills, be competent in applying the law. Value promoting and protecting the rights of individuals, whilst ensuring safety is at the forefront of your decision making.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, AMHP retention bonus up to £3,000 p.a, a high-quality pension scheme, travel allowance equivalent to zones 1 and 2, with generous annual leave inc bank holidays.

The basic working hours are 9-5pm, due to the nature of the role, as an AMHP you are required to work until assessments are completed (where reasonably practicable) which occasionally can be later than your contracted hours. With this in mind additional worked hours will be returned.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s will not be considered for this role.
