Job Details

Chelmsford Museum is seeking an enthusiastic Facilities/Caretaker Technician who will provide facilities and technical support across the Museum’s premises (Chelmsford Museum at Oaklands Park and House, Sandford Mill and Store).

The Museum has undertaken significant change since 2016 and, following the awarding of funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund in Summer 2017, Chelmsford Museum underwent a £2.2 million transformation, covering all aspects of the visitor experience. The Museum is looking for a

Facilities/Caretaker Technician to work as part of the Visitor Services Team to maintain and deliver technical services for the Museum.

The role will support the Operations Manager by overseeing the management of contractors, upkeep of the Museum and its premises. In addition, the Facilities/Caretaker Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the Assistant Museum Manager as part of the Museum's strategic objectives along with the delivery of the Curatorial & Learning team's displays and special exhibitions. This work will include preparing gallery space for exhibitions, transporting museum items, maintaining interactive and school handling resources and minor repair and maintenance of exhibition spaces.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of safe carpentry, metalwork, electrical, paint and adhesive working practices as well as having good computer skills for using software packages such as Outlook, Excel and Word.

This is an exciting role for a proactive individual looking to work within the Museum sector; someone who is keen to work within an environment undergoing rapid transformation.

Interviews will be held on 10th December 2021 at Chelmsford Museum, Oaklands Park, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford CM2 9AQ.
