About the Role

The Specialist Employment Advisor role is designed to support the delivery of Haringey’s Good Economy Employment and Skills Recovery Action Plan which takes a targeted response to reduce the unemployment rate amongst those most impacted by COVID-19 through person-centred, strengths-based employment support. 

Based within Haringey Works – the Council’s employment delivery team and Haringey’s Autism hub the Specialist Employment Advisor will engage with a range of services already working with residents with autism, learning disabilities and health conditions to identify, engage and then provide personalised, intensive support to a small caseload of residents, empowering and enabling them to make positive decisions to fulfil their potential. 

To do this role effectively you will be required to use a variety of techniques including individual coaching and training, action planning and Health & Wellbeing support to achieve sustainable employment.

About You

As this role is initially for a 20-month contract, the post holder should have track record of effectively supporting people with Autism to secure and sustain employment and be confident at using the IPS model to support people with health conditions into employment. 

The ideal candidate will need to be inclusive and champion the benefits of employing a neurodiverse workforce. This role is ideal for a great people person who understands the barriers to employment that are faced by autistic adults or people with learning disabilities. We are looking for someone who is patient and can build trust, rapport, motivate and empower residents to overcome barriers to employment and achieve realistic job goals being an advocate for that resident where needed. 

The successful candidate will have experience and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A proven track record of supporting residents with autism and or learning disabilities into sustainable paid employment
  • Knowledge, and understanding of the barriers faced by individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and health conditions from gaining paid employment
  • Experience of delivering tailored employability training for individuals with learning disabilities, autism and health conditions.
