Barnsley – the place of possibilities

Barnsley stands out from other places because of its people’s unique character and long, proud heritage and we have the aspirational vision to make Barnsley the place of possibilities.

There’s enormous growth potential in our borough. Our ambitious Local Plan nurtures better homes, jobs, services, transport links and commercial development to boost our economy. Our award-winning developments, The Glass Works and The SEAM digital campus, run alongside a multi-million pound investment in our Principal Towns and Local Centres, showcasing our commitment to creating an economy that benefits everyone.

Our Executive Director of Place will play a central role in helping us achieve our vision and build on very firm foundations. Stable and visionary political leadership has helped create the environment for investment, and an ambitious programme of place-shaping is already underway. We’re a well-managed, resilient organisation that has proved we can make things happen on the ground and confidently tackle both local and global challenges.

We’re looking for someone who understands people and their places. You will know how to ensure economic growth directly benefits communities by creating thriving places for all of our residents, helping to reduce inequalities across the borough, whilst also driving achievement of our zero carbon ambitions. And you’ll do this through building strong relationships locally, regionally and nationally, in a way that sees us remain a trusted partner and place that can influence the national agenda.
