Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Because we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. We now have an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of developing and improving recycling in north London as a Recycling Manager.

The role

The position sits within the North London Waste Authority’s (NLWA’s) Strategy and Services team, managing the waste recycling services for more than 2 million people.

A key part of the job is to develop and implement a strategic framework which will improve the recycling performance of north London and to continuously improve the provision of recycling services through innovation and partnership working with the constituent Boroughs and service contractors which collect and process the recycling.

You will also be responsible for managing the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) contract for the transfer and processing of the Authority’s mixed dry recyclables and to support the management and development of recycling arrangements delivered by London Energy Limited on behalf of the Authority.

Working with stakeholders including residents, constituent Boroughs, contractors and Members is also an essential part of this post-holder’s responsibilities.

You will also have the opportunity to develop a strategic partnership with the constituent Boroughs to tackle the important issue of contamination of mixed dry recyclables and increase capture rates of all recyclable materials

If you have experience of managing large and complex service contracts (with an estimated annual value of £8 million per year), excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and experience of effective stakeholder management then you could be the person we are looking for.

It is also essential that you have a proven track record of procuring OJEU contracts in excess of £1 million, have an advanced understanding of legislation and statutory obligations in this field, and experience of demonstrating commitment and integrating equalities and valuing diversity principles in service delivery.

If you are able to work on your own initiative and also enjoy being part of a team, then this could be your next move.

We’re ready to welcome your ideas, your views, and your rebellious spirit. Help us redefine our corporate services, and we’ll redefine what a career can be.

About the North London Waste Authority

We make sure that their waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible way. We are delivering infrastructure through the North London Heat and Power Project to provide long term assets for the sustainable management of north London’s waste.

These activities contribute to our mission of preserving resources and the environment for future generations by exemplary planning, innovation and communication in managing north London’s waste.

The Authority’s website is www.nlwa.gov.uk, and we have a specific website www.northlondonheatandpower.london to provide information on the £1 billion project we are managing to provide new infrastructure.

Working for NLWA (Camden)

At the NLWA you will have the opportunity to shape the way we manage the waste of over 2 million residents, in the most environmentally beneficial and cost-effective way. Managing 3% of the UK’s waste and working on behalf of 7 London Boroughs provides NLWA with a platform to influence the development of national and environmental policy that drives greater benefits for our residents and our planet.

We look forward to hearing your ideas and opinions on how we can redefine the service, and we’ll redefine what a career can be.
