Diversity: We are an inclusive employer and value a diverse workforce

This is an exciting opportunity to work in Hertfordshire’s Asset Management and Maintenance Service, devising and delivering high value, high profile strategies and programmes that will help address climate change challenges and build resilience into our infrastructure, supporting the County’s on-going commitment to tackling the climate emergency and ensuring our network and assets are fit for purpose. We are dealing with an increased workload around Climate Adaptation initiatives and supporting and enabling Active Travel, and a well-led drainage service will be crucial to that.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and pro-active individual with experience of managing people, programmes and budgets, to take a professional lead in the Highways drainage service, undertaking a variety of drainage related functions to help us deliver our commitments which include identification and delivery of initiatives annually with value in excess of £10m.

The Role:

As Senior Drainage Asset Manager your focus will mainly be on helping develop our emerging Drainage Strategy and then taking a lead on highways drainage strategy and delivery, whilst providing professional and technical expertise to support good asset management within the Drainage Community and across the wider Highways Service. You will identify and apply appropriate methodologies and standards to produce effective and innovative solutions to current and evolving standards and will have a good working knowledge of the relevant legal framework. You will be working closely with others within the service and the Council’s wider community and delivery partners; you will also need good negotiation and influencing skills as you will need to work with external partners including landowners, the Environment Agency, drainage companies and other local authorities in order to deliver sustainable solutions. You will be managing both your own portfolios of work and those of other members of the drainage team and will assisting with the management of budgets and handling general casework and correspondence as required, acting as subject matter expert and escalation point in the field of drainage.
