Job Details

Are you a social worker seeking a new challenge? Would you like an opportunity to work in the Fostering Service?

An exciting opportunity has become available within the North West Fostering service. The service continues to embed its core values of providing and supporting local children in local placements. We are extremely proud of our recent Children and Families Ofsted report, rating us as outstanding in all provisions across our children’s social care

services, stating: “Almost 100 per cent of North Yorkshire’s children in foster care are placed within the county.” This is a great achievement and a culture we want to continue to grow, seeing children remaining in their community and school wherever possible. We have dedicated teams providing the supervision and support to all approved foster carers across the North West part of the county. You would be joining an existing experienced team of Fostering Social Workers, who are responsible for North Yorkshire foster carers. Within the team there is also a FTE Practice Supervisor, Team Manager, Fostering Support Workers and dedicated business support.

Applications are invited from qualified Social Workers, ideally experienced in fostering and have a good understanding of the impact of childhood adverse trauma. You will need to be committed to developing excellent outcomes for children through creating productive working relationships with a wide range of services to support our fostering families. The post of Fostering Social Worker involves a range of professional skills; however, this role will predominantly focus on the supervision and support of approved Foster Carers ranging from newly approved Foster Carers to those who care for the most complex children and young people in care. Applicants would benefit from an understanding of the whole fostering process, but specifically the requirements to support and supervise Foster Carers. In addition, you should be familiar with the statutory responsibilities throughout their on-going approval.

The successful candidate will join a county fostering service committed to developing excellent practice in line with the National Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards. The post involves a degree of working outside normal office hours for home visits and group work. The post base is potentially negotiable and could be either Manor Road, Knaresborough or White Rose House, Northallerton. A discussion about full time/part time is possible. Informal discussions can be had by phoning: Karen Forrester (Fostering Team Manager): 01609 798853 or

The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.

Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The County Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.
