The Falkland Islands are set in a unique and dramatically beautiful environment in the South Atlantic Ocean. The Falkland Islands Government is seeking to appoint a Director of Development & Commercial Services to lead the development of ‘place’ across the Falkland Islands.

The Role

Working with the Chief Executive and as part of the Corporate Management Team you will lead the development and implementation of a varied range of initiatives to improve the lives of all Islanders and to enable the sustainable development of the economy. These activities include but are not limited to:  the development of new port facilities; development of improved sport and leisure facilities; improved communication infrastructure; on-shore infrastructure in support of the hydrocarbon sector, and the physical development of extra-care facilities for older people and vulnerable adults.

Additionally, you will also lead a number of the Government’s services: The inter-island air service (FIGAS); Planning Services; The Courts and Tribunal Service, The Fox Bay Village (management of government estate and utilities) and the Stanley Leisure Centre.

The role represents a truly unique opportunity for an exceptional individual who has the ability to combine their commercial acumen, political awareness and personal resilience to deliver ‘value for money’ outcomes across a varied portfolio.  The post provides a fantastic opportunity to work at a senior level in a small government with considerable scope to develop and implement significant projects that will make a real difference to the Islands’ future.

The Person

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years recent relevant experience at a senior level across a range of relevant areas including experience of successfully managing major projects and public or commercial services. Be well educated to the equivalent at first degree level and have professional qualifications in a relevant area.

The Package

  • Initial 4 Years Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
  • Starting Salary - £75,976 to £84,237 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £93,769.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights Package for you and your dependents, including mid-term return flight home.
  • Government Housing for rent and a starter pack to help you settle in.

Please note successful applicants with Falkland Islands Status/PRP will be employed on local terms and conditions.
