About Us:

Grow your legal expertise in a collegiate environment that puts communities first

In Kensington and Chelsea, we have an ambitious Council Plan which sets out our priorities for the next four years. It is directly shaped by the Council’s biggest ever ‘conversation’ with residents and puts community involvement at its heart. We’re working to ensure Kensington and Chelsea emerges stronger from these uniquely challenging times.

Value for money is a real priority and, as the volume and complexity of contracts and procurement work increases, we want to ensure we secure the best possible services for the council and the people who live and work here. Buying ethically and delivering social value are also key.

The Role:

As part of our Bi-borough Legal Service, which also provides services to Westminster City Council, you will work on a diverse and challenging caseload

You will provide advice on complex legal and procedural matters concerning commercial contract and procurement law as well as public and Local Government law and associated law to members, officers and at committees, enabling the council to deliver its priorities to the communities it serves. You will support the management and mitigation of risk, protecting the Council’s interests and protecting the communities it serves.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside collaborative colleagues who will support your ongoing professional growth and development and to take the legal lead on significant commercial projects and procurements. Dynamic and high-performing, our legal team works in an agile way to share and develop in-house expertise. [We have a strong community focus and team members are given the opportunity to get involved in a wide e range of voluntary work.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

An experienced solicitor, barrister or fellow of CILEx, you will bring a broad understanding of local government law and significant experience and expertise in public procurement, contract and, ideally, construction law. A confident communicator, you will be able to challenge, influence and negotiate at the highest levels. You will be politically aware and have the ability to take a strategic view on client priorities.  You will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team and respond well to pressure.  A commercial mind-set is essential for you to be successful in this role.
