We are seeking to recruit a social worker who will be part of The Lambeth Substance Misuse Team, which is integrated with SLaM Addictions Services. This is an exciting opportunity to work across Lambeth Adult Social Care and SLaM Addictions Services.

The Substance Misuse Team is based within a multidisciplinary team, made up of nurses, psychologists, drug and alcohol workers and social workers. The service provides support and advice to anyone over 18 with a drug or alcohol problem. Services available at Lorraine Hewitt House include assessments, prescribing to support recovery, psychology and counselling services, recovery groups, community and residential detox as well as abstinence-based treatment and aftercare services.

The Substance Misuse Team is a small but busy dedicated team of qualified social workers who assess service users who are seeking abstinence-based treatment or who have social care needs related to drug and alcohol misuse. Safeguarding adults and children is a fundamental part of the team’s role.

The post holder will need to have knowledge of the drug and alcohol field, be able to work with vulnerable adults, many of whom will have led a transient and chaotic life. The nature of this post requires a high level of partnership and collaborative working across teams. The worker will work closely with staff within SLaM Addictions, Adult Social Care and community agencies to support drug and alcohol service users in the community. 

The worker will undertake assessments, safeguarding, care plans and reviews of service user’s needs as well as giving a social care perspective at clinical meetings.

The post holder will need to have a good understanding of the following:

  • Adult Social Care legislation    
  • The support available for people with substance misuse/mental health issues, especially abstinence -based treatment.
  • Ability to work with professionals from different agencies i.e. health and voluntary professionals, adult and children teams to ensure service user’s needs health and social care needs are met through joint assessments and care plans.
