The Highway Asset Management Teams undertake a range of highway maintenance programmes of carriageway, footway, drainage, traffic and cyclical works across the county. We are responsible for the investigation, design and supervision of highway maintenance projects that can range from £5,000 to £500,000 in value.

Our Teams are based at a variety of depots across the county, to suit individual needs and reduce unnecessary commuting.

About You

We are looking for someone who wants to learn and above all else has a positive "can do" attitude, we want you to be passionate about ensuring the Lincolnshire Highways Network delivers for the residents of the county.

It is essential that you hold an HNC or Eng Tech and/or IEng in an appropriate discipline OR have a demonstrable level of knowledge and skill suitable for the role.

About the Role

No two days are ever the same in this job as every scheme we undertake has its own challenges. You will be part of a diverse team that takes pride in the improvements it makes to one of the largest highway assets in the country and has a strong belief in doing the job right first time.

Your technical and problem-solving skills will be required to determine why the highway asset is failing and, working with our in-house technical laboratory, determine a suitable and cost-effective solution; whilst keeping customers and stakeholders regularly updated on the progress of planned works.

You will be part of a team, covering your own specific highway maintenance programme, with support from Highway Maintenance Technicians and supervision from Highways Maintenance Engineers and a Programme Manager.

About the Team

We are a friendly and welcoming team that believes in supporting all staff to reach their full potential, with a mentoring and full training programme offered to all staff.

The highway maintenance schemes you undertake will be based across the County and we hold individual and group catch-up meetings at all depots to ensure that no team is isolated and we are able to share knowledge, best practice and experiences, but also to eat cake and biscuits!

About the opportunity

There is the potential to move between the various workstreams we undertake as service need dictates, to further develop your skills as a future professional engineer.

You will have the opportunity to broaden your skills through training and development to support your progression in the highways sector, with opportunities for progression into more senior roles within the wider Highways Service.

We are offering a competitive salary along with:

  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • A wide range of staff benefits including a competitive annual leave provision
  • Flexible working
  • Extensive training and development opportunities
  • cycle to work scheme,
  • civil service sports council membership,
  • many areas for professional support and development.

PLEASE NOTE: It is imperative that your covering letter/personal statement clearly states why you have applied, how you meet the essential and desirable criteria for the role as set out in the Job Description (attached on LCC jobs Site) and what you feel you can bring to this role, the team and the wider County Council.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Richard Fenwick on: shaun.butcher@lincolnshire.gov.uk

Applications Close on 23/01/2022 and interviews will be held W/C 31/01/2022.
