We are looking for 3 new Corporate Directors with energy and drive to help lead our Services and workforce who can support and contribute directly to the Council’s strategic vision. A new Head of Economic Growth has also been added to drive Orkney’s economic recovery and future growth including our Islands Deal.
The Council wants the very best for our community and needs proven and inspiring senior leaders who can help shape effective and engaging policy and translate ambitions into action and successful outcomes.
These are of course challenging times for Local Government, however here in Orkney we believe we are well placed to rise to these demands. Despite being the smallest Unitary Council in Scotland, our unique Council and breadth of services, along with our commitment to climate change, renewables and sustainability, presents unparalleled opportunities for innovation and development, whilst we strive to maintain high quality public services for our residents.
The Council’s current interim Senior Management Team have developed the Our People, Our Plan Programme which is designed to focus our corporate leadership and organisational capacity to ensure outstanding performance on the seven most critical key priorities in the Council Plan, by providing the platform for energising staff and improving confidence across our communities and our stakeholders.
Priorities 1-3 are internally focussed and are designed to develop people and performance including the design of a new operating model. Priorities 4-7 are outward-facing with an emphasis on improving life for everyone in Orkney and supporting economic growth.
As a result of the work of Priority 1 of this programme, the Council has formally approved substantial investment in its management and wider resources as part of the new operating model to enable it to meet the significant ambitions its sets for our communities, and to ensure that over the next few years we effectively modernise and transform our service delivery methods with a keen focus on high performance and valuing our workforce. You must be enthusiastic about working in partnership with our community partners and stakeholders to deliver the best outcomes for Orkney. And whilst we value innovation and the ability to drive change, we also expect a strong commitment to good governance and accountability.
