Sandwell’s vision is to be an open, fair and inclusive Borough that embraces and celebrates Sandwell’s rich and diverse communities, cultures, and traditions; and where everyone is treated fairly and given opportunities to make the most of their talents and realise their aspirations across all six towns in the borough and imbedding equality in all that it does.

To achieve this, Sandwell Council recognises it is prudent and necessary to continually look at what equalities and diversity means for Sandwell, how inequalities and discrimination are addressed and where it can make improvements for the benefit of all council employee and Sandwell residents.

We are looking to recruit an Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Manager. The post holder will be the council’s key lead in providing strategic advice and guidance on the council’s equalities agenda, as well as driving and implementing agreed improvements.

This is a newly created role with the opportunity to really make a difference within Sandwell to help us break down barriers, promote and develop Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategies and best practice within the council and across the Borough’s diverse and rich communities.

You will champion and imbed the equalities agenda by working at a local, regional and national level with partners, local business and voluntary/faith sectors by challenging prejudices, stereotypes and biases that undermine equal opportunity.

As the council’s key lead, you will be required to research, monitor, analyse and evaluate relevant data and benchmark information to inform and implement organisational practices in relation to the equalities agenda.

You will take responsibility for mapping and creating an inclusive work environment and Borough by working with Elected Members, senior management, managers and employees at all levels.

We are looking for someone who reflects who we are and what we are trying to achieve; with a forward-looking approach and a firm commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

You must have;

  • Proven track record in leading projects and delivering excellent outcomes at pace in relation to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Excellent people management skills with the confidence to manage and work with a diverse range of people.
  • A detailed understanding of the relevant legislative framework and local authority operation at corporate and community level.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of strategic planning and projects.
  • A relevant degree or management qualification
