About the role
Reporting to the Director of Governance and HR, you will be the Deputy Monitoring Officer, responsible for the effective delivery of in house legal, democratic and information governance services, across the Council.
This brand-new role has been created to add extra capacity to the service, which is undergoing a period of significant change. Working closely with the Director, you will play a key role in ensuring the service is proactive, enabling and works with people in a business partner approach. Whilst a challenging role, it is also a unique and exciting opportunity to define a new look service for the whole of North Northamptonshire. In democratic services, for example, we have created a modern and innovative governance structure from scratch and are leaders in the sector for progressive scrutiny.
From our members to our front-line workers, we are completely committed to transforming services and improving outcomes for our residents. As part of our “one team” approach, you will work across the whole Council, working closely with all directorates to ensure services are safe and working well. To achieve this, you will work closely with Members, Directors across the Council, Pathfinder (formerly LGSS Law Ltd) and a range of other key partners to create a modern, and enabling legal service. We are looking for an exceptional leader who will play a crucial role in leading and shaping our new Council to be outcome-focussed, break down silos and create an empowered culture and learning environment for our workforce.
A qualified solicitor or barrister, you’ll have extensive post qualification experience of advising directors and senior managers on legal and governance issues, have experience as a Deputy Monitoring Officer as well as a track record of successfully leading organisational and transformational change. Resilient, politically astute, innovative, and outcome focussed, you’ll also be a collaborative and strategic leader who can work effectively across the Council. You will need to have a “can do” attitude and find solutions to issues. You’ll have the drive and creativity needed to shape legal and democratic services to make them truly innovative and sector leading.
