About us
In Camden we are committed to working together to make our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Partnership with our communities is central to the way we work, so that everyone can access opportunities, and nobody gets left behind.

The role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll be an integral part of our team. Working within our extensive capital investment programme, you’ll contribute to a range of residential, commercial, corporate, and educational building projects. The investment includes the building fabric as well as M&E schemes, with a total value circa £150M per annum. You’ll help us spend wisely, managing financial procurement issues and applying cost control.

In this role, you will manage the procurement and delivery related to the programme, through applying cost control procedures i.e. supply chain management, cost/valuation reports and managing financial issues. You will provide professional advice on appropriate procurement routes to obtain the best value and manage contractual issues.

The post attracts significant financial responsibility with a requirement to report on the day-to-day financial aspects of capital projects as directed; ensure proper financial monitoring of contractors’ cost/price structures as they relate to capital and revenue provisions.

To succeed, you will collate, analyse, and contrast cost information and develop this into meaningful data to inform target costs on all elements within the cost structure. You will audit financial outcomes and monitor these against industry norms.

The ideal candidate will have an awareness of standard methods of measurement relating to fabric works and mechanical and electrical installations, as well as various methods of cost control.

Ideally, degree-educated in a relevant and appropriate discipline (or equivalent), Membership of RICS or a relevant professional body would also be desirable. you’ll also have a firm grasp of housing legislation, building pathology and construction contract issues. You will have strong communication skills and be able to confidently represent the Council and speak at public meetings.
