What you’ll do

As a Director of Planning & Growth, you’ll inspire a team of 160 towards achieving new goals. You’ll lead our different services in accordance with London Borough Enfield and National policies; from strategic Planning and Design, to Development Management, to Transport Strategy, to Building Control and beyond, the scope to make your difference is vast.

You’ll also use your expertise to ​​advise on complex planning matters and ensure that the Planning Committee Chair and elected Members are guided and briefed properly in making key decisions. And to help grow our business, you’ll maximise efficiency and keep cost effective.

We’ll also look to you to develop, shape and deliver the Directorate’s Business Plan. Playing an important part in the directorate’s leadership team, you’ll help in crosscutting corporate projects and initiatives.

About you

Bring your experience of working within a political environment, and we’ll give you the opportunity to explore new ways to grow our borough as well as your skills. With great judgement, you’re the type of person who always sees the bigger picture, with the talent to scan long term horizons and understand implications of broader national, regional and public sector trends for the Council. It means having a clear vision of how to run an effective planning function. You’ll also need to be good with people; using your communication skills to negotiate, present, influence, build relationships and inspire a whole team to greater success. What’s more, you’ll need be a member of RTPI, with a Master’s degree in planning, transport, regeneration, or urban design/conservation. All together we’re looking for someone who will put customer services at the heart of what we do and help us to transform our borough.
