An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Spatial and Transport Planning service for a Senior Transport Planner.  You will take a key role in delivering transport services for half a million residents and our businesses and visitors.  Working in the Transport Strategy Team, you will provide definitive professional advice for the Councils, creating and applying transport policy and strategy and best practice and delivering successful outcomes for a range of sustainable transport initiatives. About the role:

The Senior Transport Planner will assist a Principal Transport Planner in the identification and delivery of developer funded transport and highway schemes.  You can expect to work on some of the most high profile development sites, including Battersea Power Station and the Stag Brewery, liaising between developers, highway authorities and public transport providers.   

The role presents a great opportunity to enhance your interpersonal skills and knowledge in an organisation committed to supporting personal development. You will learn how to manage and prioritise projects and programmes cutting across teams and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

The role is based within the Shared Staffing Arrangement and will involve working on a range of projects across Wandsworth and Richmond Councils. A minimum of two years’ transport planning experience in local government or private practice is sought.  We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience of working on s106 planning agreements and highways legal agreements, including the adoption and stopping up of highways.

The borough features landmarks such as the iconic Battersea Power Station, Ram Brewery, and Clapham Junction Station, and is acknowledged for its famous green spaces such as Wandsworth and Clapham Commons, Putney Heath, and the Grade II* listed Battersea Park.

You will:

  • Take a key role in a small team of Transport Strategy professionals in providing definitive and professional advice for the councils.
  • Create and apply transport policy and strategy and deliver successful sustainable travel outcomes.
  • Help to deliver high quality, robust, and transparent Transport Strategy service.
  • Ensure decision making within tight time frames and that the Spatial and Transport Planning service is recognised as delivering an excellent service for all of our customers.
