The Role

The Senior Youth Worker role within the Detached Youth Team in Camden is a dynamic role which form part of the Reducing Youth Violence and Exploitation Service, part of the Integrated Youth Support Service. The Detached Team is a mobile street-based team of youth workers that engages with young people in a community setting i.e. local estates, parks and community spaces. Our aim is to reach young people who do not access mainstream youth provisions and we specialise in working with young people who are marginalised and hard to reach. This role requires flexibility in order to meet fixed deadlines and competing priorities.

This role involves working unsocial hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call arrangements. This is a physically demanding role and will involve significant periods of walking considerable distances as well as working outdoors during varied weather conditions. The operations of the team range across a number of functions beyond street-based delivery. The team also delivers a range of workshops within schools to both primary and secondary pupils.

The public engagement element this role involves regularly coming into contact with people, some of whom may at times be challenging from time to time.

The post holder will be required to take responsibility for the compliance with Health and Safety legislation in accordance with the Council and departmental safety arrangements, policies, and codes.

As a Senior Detached Youth Worker, you will be an individual who is experienced, committed and confident in implementing a Youth Work process approach to actively engage young people in a community setting. You will be an excellent communicator who has the ability to engage and work innovatively with new young people and engaging them and their families and other professionals in order to assess, develop and deliver interventions and activities.  

You’ll be a committed and passionate professional who can work with young people to offer a holistic support services that develop their personal and social skills and participation in society. It is essential to have a good understanding of child development, with experience of using child protection and safeguarding procedures as required.

To be considered for this vacancy it is essential the successful candidate has experience of delivering accredited and non-accredited programmes and is effective in the development and delivery of workshops.

The post holder will be required to liaise and work effectively with various teams and services across the Camden and the voluntary sector.  

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

This role requires you to hold a Professional Qualification in any of the following:

  • Social work (HCPC- registered)
  • Professional Certificate of Effective Practice with significant post qualification experience
  • Probation
  • Degree in Youth and Community work (JNC recognised)
  • Level 4 or above IAG, careers guidance
  • Social work
  • Psychology/Counselling
  • Substance Misuse

You must be willing to work unsocial hours as part of this role, including mornings as part of our schools offer.

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience of working in schools/educational settings
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience
