It is no exaggeration to state that Belfast is a city transformed and has become one of the most attractive cities in the UK and Ireland. There’s a quality of life here to rival that of any European city making it an ideal place to live, work, visit or study. It is the economic and cultural heart of the region with world class universities, thriving creative industries and a world-recognised technology sector particularly in the areas of cyber security and fin-tech. We are seeking to appoint our next Chief Executive to help us build on this momentum and continue to make Belfast a genuinely world class city.

This is a rare and career-defining opportunity to serve as a Chief Executive of a capital city. You will act as an ambassador for Belfast City Council on a national and international stage. As an innovative and forward-thinking local authority, with responsibility for the largest city in Northern Ireland, Belfast City Council has played the lead role in the emergence of Belfast as one of Europe’s leading cities. We published our Belfast Agenda in 2017 setting out our vision and long-term ambitions for the future of the city and, during the period of the first community plan, jobs in Belfast increased by over 10,000; businesses in the city increased by 10%; the number of residents increased by 5,000; and the estimated spend by visitors on overnight stays increased by 50%. These achievements are impressive and our expectations are high. Our new Chief Executive will be actively committed and excited to be continuing this journey for the city and the people of Belfast, driving inclusive growth, making the most of our City Deal, and shaping success for the future of the city and its people.

Our new Chief Executive will be highly skilled and experienced in managing large and complex organisations. You will join us at a challenging and exciting time as we continue to manage through a pandemic and we need a leader with a strong, strategic mind who is a clear thinker; who understands and has an organisational grip of the competing demands of service delivery, organisational performance and partnership working.
