We have fantastic opportunities for strategic planning professionals, as we are looking to expand our Strategic Planning Team. If you are ready for a new challenge and are interested in an opportunity to join our successful team then these positions will be of interest to you.

As a Senior Strategic Planning Policy Officer you will help ensure the Council can provide a statutory planning policy framework to meet the needs for development, infrastructure provision and environmental protection and enhancement of the city.   Taking a significant role in key project areas to deliver the Local Plan, you will be proficient in project planning ideally having had previous experience of leading project teams carrying out work across a range of different activities. An excellent communicator you will have knowledge and understanding of best practice in this field.

Contributing to growing the city’s plan to promote spatial development and to protect the quality of York's unique historic, natural and built environment the team are currently progressing a varied work programme including a new Local Plan through examination, which is supported by a dedicated programme manager, the production of supplementary planning documents, neighbourhood plans and a Joint Minerals and Waste plan with neighbouring authorities.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

Relocation expenses, in accordance with the City of York Council’s Relocation Policy, may be available for the successful candidate subject to meeting the relevant criteria
