We have high ambitions for our area and are looking for a Group Head of Law & Governance (Monitoring Officer) to form a part of the Council’s Senior Management Team (SMT) and play a key part in the delivery of the Council’s vision, values, and objectives. This is an exciting time to join us here at Arun, with a newly appointed Chief Executive focused on transforming our well-run council into an ambitious, modern, employer of choice.

You will contribute significantly across the Council by leading a range of teams across standards; legal services; committee services; data protection; information management; FOI; and official complaints. As we strive to refine what excellent service delivery looks like in the future, you will work closely with the Chief Executive to set the vision and strategic direction for the teams you lead, bringing a new and fresh outlook to deliver the appropriate legal advice and guidance to the Council, its committees, and internal officers.

About you

There is much to do in Arun, and this role will unquestionably provide you with the scope and responsibility to develop your career aspirations, providing stretch and growth. We are looking for an individual with a strong track record of practical action and service achievement. You will be a legal professional with a demonstrable track record of navigating complex governance structures that can deliver robust and effective advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
