You will mainly work evenings, with occasional meetings during the day.  Opportunities are available across Kirklees.

Would you like to help schools and our children by attending governing body meetings as the clerk?

There are 195 schools across Kirklees. The School Governors Service offers a comprehensive and coherent service to Governing Bodies and 2,800 Individual Governors.

The Clerk to the Governing Body will be accountable to the Governing Body, working effectively with the chair of governors, and with the Head Teacher and other Governors.  The Clerk will be responsible for advising the Governing Body on procedures and will work within the broad current legislative framework.

Your main role would be to take notes of the key points and decisions at the meeting and advise the Governing Body on procedures, then at home produce minutes of the meeting in the agreed format.  Minutes are then submitted to our office at Kirkgate Buildings within an agreed timescale of 10 working days

A Governing Body usually meets between three to six times a year (in term time).  You could work for more than one school to increase your earnings.

Requirements for this job:

  • Able to advise the Governing Body on governance legislation and procedural matters where necessary during the meeting.  Training will be provided to enable you to gain the necessary knowledge and understanding.
  • Ability to take accurate notes of meetings and produce minutes.
  • Word Processing skills to RSA Level 2 or equivalent qualification or ability to produce work to that standard.
  • Part of the selection process will require you to attend an actual governing body meeting and take minutes. Also on appointment there is an expectation that you will take part in a training programme.

In order to be shortlisted for this job, please demonstrate using examples in your application that you meet all of the requirements for the job as detailed in the Job Description.
