Location

Salary

Closing date

The Highland Council is the largest local government area in the UK and is one of 32 councils in Scotland, serving people across 26,484sq km. The Highland Council provides a wide range of services with a revenue budget of £640m (2021-22). The priorities for the Council (2017-22) are highlighted in the Administration’s Programme ‘Local voices, Highland choices’; the Council’s Corporate Plan, and the budget strategy ‘Ambitious Highland – Health and Prosperity Strategy for Highland’.

The Communities and Place Service brings functions together that focus on three key public service areas. These are:

  1. Delivering key services that reach everyone in the Highlands: waste strategy, operations and street cleaning; amenities and public conveniences; bereavement services and crematorium; environmental health and customer & Registrar Services.
  2. Working with communities to improve public services locally: city and ward management and community support co-ordination; community asset transfers; community engagement; community learning and development (with Highlife Highland) and community planning.
  3. Tackling poverty and inequality and leading on our equalities and human rights duties.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will lead corporate and cross service strategies that improve performance, drive efficiency, and connect with communities to meet the needs of the people of the Highlands. We are seeking an outstanding leader with significant senior management experience, preferably gained in the public sector. Experience of leading and managing major programmes and projects within a large organisation is required. You will be innovative and forward thinking and you will need to understand and appreciate the uniqueness of Highland communities and the challenges of our stunningly diverse geography. Importantly you will be a team player and an excellent colleague.

If you relish challenge and working at a very fast pace, while connecting with people at every opportunity, across a vast and beautiful area in the north of Scotland, then this is the perfect role for you.
