The Transport Services Team is responsible for the Council's transport resources function including the maintenance of its 850 vehicle mixed fleet and associated plant equipment. The Team is also responsible for the the administration of the Safer Driving Programme the pool car scheme fuel logistics vehicle hire leasing and procurement and the vehicle telemaics systems. In addition the Team ensure compliance with the requirements of the Council's Vehicle Operator's Licences.

We are looking for an experienced professional to lead and manage the Council's fleet maintenance function operating out of 5 workshops across Cumbria. This new role will play an essential part in driving forward service improvement and improving the offer to a wide range of internal customers and some external organisations. The successful candidate will directly line manage a team of 5 Fleet Maintenance Supervisors with overall responsibility for a team of up to 30. The post holder will also provide cover for the Fleet Maintenance Supervisors during periods of absence and will be expected to travel across Cumbria on a regular basis and occasionally outside the county. The successful candidate will also play an essential role as the Council moves towards Local Government Reform in Cumbria with 2 new unitary authorities commencing in April 2023.
