JOB PURPOSE:
With the principal aim of engaging young people in meaningful interventions, support them to achieve their outcomes and life opportunities whilst minimising the impact of their emotional wellbeing and any risks that they may pose, whether this be to themselves, others or offending or re-offending.

The post holder will also support young people by developing, monitoring and evaluating group work interventions and line managing Assitant Youth Work staff who undertake this work. 

In addition the post holder will manage the Young Carers Project having oversite of Young & Young Adult Carers needs assessments. The post holder will support the project Co-ordinator to develop our Young Carers offer & undertake work with partner Schools & colleges in the identification of young carers across Leicestershire.

 ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional JNC recognised qualification in Youth Work plus significant post qualification experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional developmentrelevant to job role
  • Evidence of significant training, or of further study, that enhances the applicant's understanding of youth work and social exclusion
  • Substantial experience of working with children, young people and families in either case or group work situations
  • Experience of working in Youth Work settings and provisions with vulnerable young people
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency setting
  • Experience of partnership working
  • Knowledge of child development and an awareness of differing needs of children and young people 
  • Knowledge of relevant behavioural change practice to bring about change in youth work and anti-social behaviour.
  • A good understanding of how to manage risks in the community and an understanding of and commitment to risk policies and procedures
  • Understanding of emotional wellbeing and the methods and interventions which support young people.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a multi-agency context, including the ability to operate in a variety of different settings with both clients and professionals including community bases and home environments
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including presenting information to professional partners; good recording, administrative and report writing skills
  • Good organisational, planning skills and working to deadlines
  • Proven ability to engage with people from a variety of backgrounds, in particular those children, young people and families that are hard to reach
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to prioritise work
  • IT skills to include the ability to use Microsoft packages and databases / case management systems
  • Good assessment skills and the ability to use assessment tools.
  • Must have a full valid driving licence, unrestricted use of a car, and relevant insurances.  However, a reasonable adjustment will be considered for an applicant with a disability.
