Job Details

The Place and Economy Directorate is at the forefront of making sure Cambridgeshire is open for business. We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we believe benefits our employees, the organisation and our communities.

The Local Highway Officer role is based in the Highways & Transport Service and provides an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual looking to join our highways team.

The role is to identify maintenance repairs and improvements, dealing with customer correspondence from Parish Councils and members of the public. You will be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written and be able to build relationships with customers, elected members, businesses, partner organisations and other stakeholders.

We are looking for someone who will use their initiative, seek opportunities for knowledge sharing and be able to work as part of a busy team whilst managing their own workload, preferably with experience of highway maintenance.

We operate from a number of bases across Cambridgeshire and are looking to recruit to a position in Huntingdon or Whittlesford Highway Depot.

All our work involves good communication and partnership working and you will be required to negotiate with contractors and key stakeholders. There will be occasions where members of the community will seek your advice or require an explanation you must therefore be a clear communicator and be able to explain matters clearly and sensitively.

In return we can offer a varied workload, training and support to further increase your technical competence. Cambridgeshire County Council offers flexible working arrangements, a local government pension and a comprehensive package of staff benefits including savings on big name brands and independent stores; Cycle 2 Work and a Salary Sacrifice car scheme.
