Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, suitably experienced individual who is passionate and committed with substantial knowledge and experience of the adult safeguarding agenda.  Your aim must be that all services delivered to those with care and support needs are of the highest calibre, meeting both individual and community requirements. You must be able to promote, facilitate and champion partnership working, whilst providing constructive critical challenge when needed.  You must contribute to an effective partnership approach to safeguard adults in Sefton, whilst recognising the independent nature of the role. You need to be able to drive forward adult safeguarding developments in a way that balances duties to safeguard people, with the rights of people to take positive risk of their own lives, listening to lessons learnt to inform change and practice for the people of Sefton.

You will act as an ambassador for SSAB and promote the importance of safeguarding being everybody's business.  You will seek to ensure that the voices of people who require care and support, their families and carers are heard and acted upon within Board work.  Your significant knowledge and experience will command respect and engagement from all Board Members and their constituent partners, with the ability to effectively align strategic agendas.

You will be able to communicate well in a range of settings including public meetings and be confident to engage with Senior Managers across a range of organisations.

This is a challenging but rewarding role, a chance to work at a strategic level with a wide range of multi-agency partners and professionals across Sefton. You will ensure that the Board is subject to appropriate scrutiny and review in order that assurance can be given to the people of Sefton that the Board is fulfilling its statutory functions and effectively meeting its objectives. You will ensure that the work of SSAB challenges discrimination and promotes diversity.

You will hold an academic and/or professional qualification in one of the core disciplines represented on the Board, with substantial experience of working in adult safeguarding and chairing complex professional meetings.  You will be self-motivated and keen to ensure that adult safeguarding services make a positive contribution to the people of Sefton. You will need to possess sound knowledge of both national and local safeguarding agendas and have current knowledge and understanding of legislation for adults at risk and research underpinning safeguarding work.

You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to engage with and motivate stakeholders, partner agencies and communities to promote the individual’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.

Paid on a consultancy basis, it is anticipated that this role will require up to a maximum of 24 days per annum. The specific commitment required will be agreed as part of the appointment process and is open to negotiation. The daily rate will be £700 per day including any travel costs. The arrangement would be for an initial period of 2 years with an annually renewable contract subject to six months’ notice by either party. The post will be subject to two reference checks.

This role would suit an individual with senior management experience within a social care or health setting.

Please email your CV and Supporting Statement demonstrating how you meet the criteria within the Person Specification to joan.coupe@sefton.gov.uk
