Great Yarmouth Borough Council is an ambitious local authority with big plans for the future and significant opportunities ahead.
With one of the most successful Enterprise Zones in the country, Great Yarmouth is England's offshore energy hub and Norfolk's biggest seaside resort, nestled at the edge of the Broads National Park, with an immensely rich cultural heritage.
Working with partners, both locally and nationally, the Council is driving forward an exciting area-based agenda. All Council services play their part in achieving our vision, focussed around a strong and growing economy, improved housing and strong communities, high-quality and sustainable environment, and an efficient and effective Council.
After a recent restructure we are looking for an experienced, dynamic and forward-thinking manager to join the team. You will be responsible for leading the private rented sector housing team, driving forward the Councils plans to improve the housing conditions of those people living in the Borough.
The post holder will manage the selective licensing scheme and will take for the Councils aspirations to widen this scheme into other areas of the Borough as well as tackling the issues of poor accommodation and illegal HMOs.
If you are a motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic and successful leader then this is the role for you, with plenty of opportunity to shape the team you manage and the service, as we modernise the way we work to deliver a high-quality service the residents and visitors of the Borough.
The successful post holder will have a track record of successful leadership and project delivery, will be able to influence and negotiate and will be politically astute. They will thrive in a busy environment and enjoy a challenge.
We are looking for candidates who have a degree or diploma in Environmental Health with a solid knowledge across environmental health. Private sector housing legislation (including selective licensing) is preferential; however, we will consider applications from those with significant experience running any frontline environmental health team, as full housing training will be provided.
The Environmental Services team work on occasion, outside normal office hours and you would be expected to partake as required. You would also be expected to participate in the standby rota which attracts an additional payment.
