The Asset Management and Maintenance service is responsible for providing a responsive and cyclical maintenance service to around 27,000 council house properties. We are recruiting electricians able to complete jobs in their chosen trade and associated work. The successful applicant will work as part of a team of electrical employees, to deliver a customer focused, value for money repairs and maintenance service, ensuring the job is completed right first time.

Electrician– The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a full range of electrical repairs, maintenance and installation works: Examples such as but not limited to

  • Full or part rewires and refurbishments.
  • Undertake periodic reporting, testing and documentation to the relevant electrical regulations
  • Portable appliance testing
  • Installation of computer wiring
  • To make an assessment of faults, undertaking diagnostic investigations, before undertaking the necessary repairs to make safe.
  • To certify and sign off that all work has been completed to a standard that meets the electrical regulations, to ensure the safety of all personnel including tenants.
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel including tenants.
  • Cyclical maintenance to equipment providing service to high rise properties/public buildings., eg: booster pumps
  • From time to time you will be required to erect mobile towers, Booms, working from vehicle mounted platforms such as a cherry picker, in order to execute any working at height duties.
  • Cyclical maintenance to equipment with in void or tenanted properties.
  • Maintaining and servicing electric central heating boilers and systems
  • Temporary electrical installation work e.g. for public events, polling stations etc
  • Installation or renewal of heating packages, extractor fans, smoke detectors, consumer units etc.
  • To undertake practical and theory training and be able to follow correct safety procedures when working on domestic/public buildings.
  • Fire alarm maintenance and repairs
  • Emergency light maintenance and repairs
  • Carry out associated works to ensure the job is completed right first time. E.g. plastering, plumbing and carpentry.
  • To comply with stipulations of governing body(s)
  • To keep up to date with legislation changes, maintaining knowledge of up to date regulations for electrical safety.
  • The requirement to train designated employees.
  • Supervise apprentices, being responsible for their health & safety on site.
  • To ensure sufficient stock of materials on the vehicle, to undertake the repairs.
  • When necessary to work in unpleasant conditions such as, confined spaces and awkward positions.
  • To attend Team Briefs.
  • You will be required to help identify your training needs and, in partnership with your Manager, develop strategies to enable you to meet those needs in line with the objectives of the Council.
  • To carry out all duties with regard and compliant with any relevant up to date ISO procedures.
  • To participate in the operation of the Council’s Appraisal Scheme.
  • It is your responsibility to carry out your duties in line with the Council's policy on equality and be sensitive and caring to the needs of the disadvantaged, promoting a positive approach to a harmonious working environment. You should act as an exemplar on these issues and should identify and monitor training for yourself and any employees for whom you are responsible, in line with this policy and the Equality Act 2010.
  • Such other duties as may be appropriate to achieve the objectives of the post to assist the Thematic Area in the fulfillment of its objectives commensurate with the post holder's salary grade, abilities and aptitudes.
  • The post holder must at all times carry out his/her responsibilities with due regard to the Council's policy, organisation, and arrangements for Health and Safety at Work.

The Successful post holder must possess: 

City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electro-Technical Technology (Electrical Installation) / Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent

NVQ 3 Electrical installation or equivalent electrical qualification.

18th Edition regulations (2832) BS7671

At least 2 years’ experience in their chosen trade.

Full Driving License.

Relevant experience to complete the job at first visit.

Electrical Inspection and Testing (2391) or equivalent

PAT testing (2377)

Electric Vehicle Charging (2919)

Photovoltaic systems (2372)
