Job Details
We have an exciting opportunity for a Flood Risk Management Engineer to join our Network Strategy Team within our Highways and Lead Local Flood Authority Development Management Service, as part of a professional and dedicated Engineering team.
Our team
The Development Management Team is based in the Network Strategy Service area. The advertised post is an integral part of the dedicated and experienced team, undertaking the roles and responsibilities of the Council in its capacity as Lead Local Flood Authority. Tasks include responding to planning applications on surface water drainage systems, undertaking flood investigation, working on land drainage consents and liaising with partners and the community in response to, and to progress mitigation for flood risk issues within North Yorkshire.
The geography in the county is vast and varied, meaning that the work of the lead local flood authority is similarly wide-ranging. Any working day could see you carrying out tasks relating to surface water drainage as part of the delivery of strategic major development, right through to looking at land management, catchment and natural flood management solutions to mitigate risks or working with impacted communities or resilience and preparedness within the county of North Yorkshire.
If you have experience of working within any area of flood risk management, or are interested in developing a career in this interesting and satisfying service area, within the field within North Yorkshire we would love to hear from you.
What you will bring
This is a career-graded post, to be successful you must either have a HNC in civil engineering or a degree in a relevant subject (for example, geography or town planning), or have the necessary qualification to be successful in embarking on studying for a relevant level 5 qualfication (HNC/D or equivalent) in a relevant subject (civil engineering/flood risk), funded by the council.
The post would be suitable for partial home working or working from one of the many Area Depots located across the County
Working for us
As a council we are lucky to benefit from access to modern technology enabling us to work from various locations – including other NYCC bases and from home. This post comes at no exception and the successful candidate will have an agile approach to their work, optimising resources and making the most of our flexible working options. We can offer you a comprehensive benefits package including continuous professional development; flexible working hours; local government pension scheme; salary sacrifice schemes and employee discount benefits.

Company
The County of North Yorkshire is the largest County in England and Wales. Within the county are 598 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and 530 square miles of the North York Moors National Park. The county is included in the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.
Whilst the economy of the County has traditionally been dependent on agriculture and tourism, there is a fast growing high technology base and this, together with other forms of light manufacturing industry, is of increasing importance. The County Council has an active policy of economic development and the predominantly rural character of the County is highly attractive to high technology businesses as well as the traditional industries of farming, food production and tourism. The County contains several centres of great historic interest, market towns that invite light industrial development, the modern coalfield area in the South, scenic, lightly populated upland areas and the extensive lowland area in the Vale of York.
