The primary role of the Independent Living Service (ILS) is to assess peoples’ needs, improving their independence/safety and assisting people to build on their own assets, accessing universal services, equipment etc., thus preventing, reducing, and delaying the need for formal services.

The role of ILS is fundamental in reducing the cost of support packages and enabling individuals to increase their independence in their own homes. All staff within ILS work closely with other teams within the community and the hospital, helping to prevent delays in discharge and providing advice and guidance around management of disability, improving independence and providing equipment or adaptations were deemed necessary.

ILS Assessment Service also comprises of three elements:

1.     ILS general assessment team

2.     Telecare service

3.     Sensory service

The Deputy Team Manager will assist the Service Manager and Clinical Manager to lead and manage the teams, ensuring the work is allocated effectively and completed efficiently.  Due to the high demands and the fast pace of the service, support is required to ensure the ongoing timely interactions/monitoring and flow through the service to minimise the impact on other areas such as the hospital and ensure the promotion of independence.

The Deputy Manager is an important and integral part of the Team ensuring productivity whilst supporting staff and being a key contact for support and guidance. Experience of working with a multidisciplinary setting would be an advantage and a knowledge of therapeutic processes and Occupational Therapy Standards required.

The Deputy Manager will be required to input and take part in the wider integration agenda and ensure that the services and staff are represented and advocate on their behalf thus must have good communication skills and confidently represent the service and staff

The Deputy Manager will be required to support staff within the Independent Living Service (ILS) via supervisions and consultation when required. They will also support with managerial cover in the absence of the Service Manager / Clinical Manager and must be flexible and adaptable and willing to learn and enhance their current skills and development to support within a very fast pace services.
