We are looking for a highly motivated Team Manager, to join our Adoption Team in York (part of One Adoption North & Humber). You will be based in West Offices, York.

You will have a significant role within the CYC Adoption Team (which is part of One Adoption North & Humber) delivering management duties and supervising frontline staff made up of Adoption social workers. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a leadership team within the adoption service and it is an exciting time to be joining the City of York Council. You will have a good understanding of adoption and best practice within this field of work, combined with a strong understanding of a child’s journey through the care system, including permanency planning & EPP. Adoption is such a diverse area of practice within social work and every day brings new challenges and rewards. One of the primary aspects of the role is to inspire, lead and manage Adoption Social Workers and to ensure the effective and consistent delivery of our adoption service to children and adoptive parents in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures. This is a diverse role which also includes providing agency advice to the adoption panel and to the Agency Decision Maker (ADM) in the context of plans of adoption for children.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.
