Our Children Looked After Service is looking to recruit two permanent Social Workers or Senior Social Workers to join our amazing team in Wandsworth and help play a central role in achieving positive outcomes for children between the age of 0-18 years old!

About the team

This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive social work team led by engaging and supportive senior managers who are striving to continue improving and developing the service. This is a permanent service and we are looking to fill two positions.  Close individual supervision and group supervision is provided to help support our social workers drive forward children’s care plans as well as your own development. We receive clinical support via a team of Family Therapists that offer individual consultation and support to social workers and our children and young people. We work very closely with a number of support services including EVOLVE (contextual safeguarding support workers), Social Care CAMHS and our own Permanency Champion driving forward our focus upon achieving permeance for our children and young people. 

We are currently working with a model where social workers support an average of 10 children each, which allows us an opportunity to really get to know our children and young people. 

We have lots of development opportunities within Wandsworth and understand the importance of continued professional development for social workers. We are currently offering our social workers/ senior social workers the opportunity to complete years 1 & 2 of their systemic training, after the successful completion of probation.

About the role

Wandsworth Social Services have an exciting opportunity for talented enthusiastic social workers to join our expanding Children Looked After teams. 

You will work on mixed and complex caseloads with children aged 0-18.  The role will give you the latitude to help improve outcomes for children and young people in care by supporting them to build a stable future. We have a strong focus on children and young people understanding why they are in our care and supporting them understand the decisions made about them, we believe that life journey work is key to supporting children whilst in our care. We support our social workers to maintain a strong relationship with our children’s families and communities of origin. 

As a social worker you will need to evidence that you are able to build positive relationships with our children and young people, as well as their networks. You will need to evidence a commitment to support our children achieve permanency as soon as possible and demonstrate a commitment to support and achieve high aspirations for all our children and young people.

To be shortlisted your CV and personal statement will demonstrate:

  • You are a qualified social worker, with relevant systemic practice experience or an interest in systemic ideas, working with children and young people in care. 
  • Our social work team are involved in Court work, adoption and permanent fostering work so an understanding of the legislative and policy framework is required. 
  • You are motivated and committed to working with multi-cultural communities, with a desire to develop and enhance the skills and experience you have gained.

All Social Worker applicants need to complete their ASYE Year to be eligible for these posts.  Wandsworth council runs a separate program for newly qualified Social Workers.
