Harrow is a diverse borough, and we want a leadership team to match. As such, we’re open to a range of unique talent and experiences. If you have the right attitude, leadership potential and transferable skills then we want to hear from you.
Harrow represent all that’s good about outer London life – but it could be even better. We’re determined to create a thriving, modern, inclusive and vibrant borough that residents can be proud of. Our ambitious plans have put affordable, high-quality homes; jobs and investment; and cleaner, greener Neighbourhoods at the top of the agenda. Now, we need inspirational leaders to lead the way – and build a better Harrow.
As Director of Environment, you’ll inspire some 600 people to give their best for our communities through exemplary leadership. It’s a chance to take charge of key areas including street cleansing and waste services; waste strategy; transport strategy; traffic and highways infrastructure maintenance; environmental health; private sector housing; licensing and enforcement; parking operation; and commercial services.
However, to achieve our goals, you’ll also need to lead strategic direction and provide the vision to make plans happen. To drive improvements – that put customers front and centre – you’ll need to champion service transformation, steer change programmes and make the most of technology.
At this level, you’ll be responsible for managing finances, honing performance and developing Environmental Services via smart commercial thinking. Strong strategic partnerships will play a big part and you’ll foster collaboration.
It all adds up to a hugely exciting role at the heart of our Place Directorate Management team. And for this kind of challenge, we need a very special leader.
We’re looking for a resilient and determined professional who’s an excellent communicator. Enthusiastic and politically sharp, you’ll bring a proven track record in Environmental Services management (or equivalent) and strategic thinking. Thanks to this background, you can manage complex, inter-related services, achieve transformation and co-design in consultation with residents. Plus, you’re aware of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
While this is a senior local government role, we’re keen to hear from people with experience or looking to step up in their career as well as those with transferable experience currently working in other sectors. Your leadership, attitude and focus on service are what’s important. We’re committed to development here at Harrow so we’ll support you to be successful if you bring the right attitude. Support those stepping up or transferring from other sectors.
If you also have the credibility to build partnerships and get the best out of teams, now’s the time to join us. Create the best-ever Harrow. Click to find out more or apply.
