The post holder will be working within a busy Youth and Justice Service and working directly with children who are aged 10 and over and have had some contact with the Youth Justice System. 
 
The work will involve a variety of practical activities that could include basic maintenance, gardening & painting of community spaces. Improving the space within our centres for service users. Undertaking craft activities that could include making or upcycling things to sell on and supporting the children to get involved in local volunteering opportunities which benefit charities.  

The postholder will arrange, plan and deliver with the children to enable then to undertake community reparation across Leicestershire and taking into account victims voice.  This role will focus on, but not exclusively, supporting children who have been received a high level support programme from the Court and you will be part of a group of workers dedicated to this group of children and reduce their risk of committing further harm and offences.   

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent plus some relevant experience in reparation/restorative work delivery 
  • Working with young people
  • Practical skills 
  • Issues relating to young offenders Health and safety issues
  • Knowledge of youth justice and safeguarding legislation and the operation of the youth justice system 
  • Knowledge of restorative approaches
  • Understanding of the impact of crime and the responding to needs/protection of victims 
  • Supervising young people on practical tasks
  • In depth knowledge of practical skills such as gardening, painting and decorating etc
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a multi-agency context
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including presenting information to professional partners; good recording, administrative and report writing skills
  • Good organisational, planning skills and working to deadlines
  • Able to engage with people from a variety of backgrounds, in particular partner organisations, children, young people and families that are hard to reach IT skills to include the ability to use Microsoft packages and databases/ case management systems
  • Assessment skills and the ability to use assessment tools 
  • An understanding of, and commitment to Equal Opportunities, and the ability to apply this to all situations.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010.
  • Possession of a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle. However, a reasonable adjustment will be considered for an applicant with a disability.
  • Ability to travel to and access a range of buildings including family homes
  • Willingness and ability to work outside usual working office hours and to a 08.30h – 17.00h duty system and weekend work depending on operational needs.
  • The post-holder must be willing to undertake further training within the Youth Justice professional development framework
