Who we are
Here at Enfield Council, our mission is to create a lifetime of opportunity for our residents. Serving a population of over 330,000 people, we’re ambitious and forward-thinking, embarking on projects that will enhance the lives of everyone who lives, works, studies and visits here. From developing Meridian Water, to regenerating estates, to receiving one of the highest levels of planning permission requests in London – our projects are impactful as they are exciting.
With a political climate that supports change, this is your chance to help grow our business sector, attract new industries and transform the whole authority.
What you’ll do
As the Director of Law & Governance you will lead, direct, and inspire people within the directorate and the wider Council to deliver ambitious results. You will ensure the council is prepared for effective strategic planning, commissioning and delivery of services across the directorate. Working closely with the Leader and the Cabinet you will contribute to the development and achievement of strategic goals that fulfil the statutory needs of the Council and its residents.
You will also use your expertise to advise on complex Legal and Governance matters and ensure that the council and elected members are guided and briefed appropriately in making key decisions. Acting as the Council’s Statutory Monitoring Officer you will ensure that lawful decision making, sound corporate governance and compliance is embedded in all service areas.
We’ll also look to you to develop, shape and deliver the Directorate’s Business Plan. Playing an important part in the directorate’s leadership team, you’ll help in crosscutting corporate projects and initiatives.
Bring your experience of working within local or central government and within a political environment, and we’ll give you the opportunity to explore new ways to grow our borough as well as your skills. With great judgement, you’re the type of person who always sees the bigger picture, with the talent to scan long term horizons and understand implications of broader national, regional and public sector trends for the Council. Having an excellent knowledge of local government law and practice you will be able to deliver on development of long-term strategic plans and priorities. An agile individual with creativity to provide solutions on complex issues with changing priorities. You’ll also need to be good with people; using your communication skills to negotiate, present, influence, build relationships and inspire a whole team to greater success.
If you’re the kind of leader who likes to take responsibility, and work collaboratively to find new solutions, then we’d love to hear from you.
